Inter-American Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

THE SHAWL

The shawl is very important
For Indigenous women

You can carry a child in a shawl
or make a hamac for the baby

You can also carry
Vegetables
Medicinal herbs
Wood
Flowers or
Earth

You can wrap yourself in a shawl
Protect your head
Warm your shoulders
Decorate your hips
You can sleep over or
Under it

You can dance with a shawl
Wipe your tears
Hide a smile

You can
Weave it
Knit it
Sew it
Cover it with many colors or
Make it plain

And if you run fast enough in the wind
It can become wings
